Premium full-grain cowhide leather — Velano Hides atelier
MAISON DE CUIR · EST. MMXXVI

An atelier where
time is the tool.

From a small workshop in Valencia Town, Lahore, we craft cowhide and leather objects intended to age — not expire.

Velano Hides was founded on a single premise — that a leather object should carry the honesty of the hand that made it. Every hide is hand-selected, cut and stitched by a small team of craftsmen trained in traditions passed down through generations of Lahore's leather quarter.

We refuse the shortcuts. Edges are burnished, not painted. Seams are saddle-stitched, not machine-lockstitched. Linings are silk or raw suede. It takes longer. It lasts longer.

Today the Maison supplies boutiques, brands and private clients in twenty-five countries — always in modest quantities, always to order.

Chapter I · The Grain

The hide is our first collaborator.

We work only with the top cut of the hide — the layer that carries the animal's history. Every marking, vein and pore is left visible. Nothing is embossed, nothing corrected. What you touch is what nature drew.

Chapter II · The Discipline

Four rules we refuse to bend.

Hand-cut

Every panel traced and cut against a leather board — never a die-press.

Saddle-stitched

Two needles, waxed linen. If one thread fails, the seam still holds.

Edge-burnished

Beeswax, canvas, friction. No painted edges, ever.

Solid brass

Hardware forged from solid bar — buckles you can pass on.

Chapter III · The Hand

A stitch pulled nine times a minute.

Our master stitchers work at a rhythm learned over decades — slow enough to see the leather, fast enough to feel it. A single bag may carry three thousand stitches. Each one placed by a person whose name we know.

01Selection — hides chosen by hand from the top of the pile
02Cutting — grain direction respected, waste minimised
03Stitching — saddle-stitched in waxed Irish linen
04Finishing — burnished, oiled, rested for 48 hours

Chapter IV · Provenance

From tannery to table.

We source from three family-run tanneries — two in the Punjab, one in Tuscany. Each hide arrives with its own certificate: origin, tannage, weight. We reject roughly one in four. What remains is worthy of your name on the inside seam.

We make heirlooms that happen to be leather.”
